When is Libra Season 2026?

The Sun enters Libra at 8:05pm Eastern on Tuesday 22 September 2026, which is 5:05pm in Los Angeles and already 1:05am on Wednesday 23 September in London, and that is why you will see both dates floating around online. Libra season then runs for just over a month, until the Sun crosses into Scorpio at 5:37am Eastern on Friday 23 October.

That first moment is also the September equinox, when day and night are almost exactly the same length all over the world. Autumn begins in the northern hemisphere and spring in the southern, and the sky hands us a literal balance point at the very moment the sign of the scales begins. Astrologers call Libra a cardinal sign because it opens a season of the year, and cardinal signs are the initiators of the zodiac, so Libra's balance is an active one: she starts the conversation, makes the ask, sets the table and creates the harmony she wants to live in.

What Libra season is about: love, money, beauty and the ask

Libra is ruled by Venus, and Venus is the planet of attraction in every sense: who you are drawn to, what you find beautiful, what you will pay for, what you think you are worth and how much pleasure you allow yourself to have. In the earth sign Taurus, Venus is sensual and material, all silk sheets and savings accounts. In Libra, an air sign, she becomes social, relational and aesthetic, so this is the season where love, taste and fairness get talked about, negotiated and decided between people.

Libra is also the natural ruler of the seventh house, the part of the chart that describes committed partnerships of every kind: lovers, spouses, business partners, clients, collaborators and the contracts that hold them together. The themes that come up for all of us this month are relationships, agreements, standards, beauty, balance and fairness, and the quiet question running underneath every one of them is whether the deals you are living inside still feel fair to you.

The energy is gorgeous when you work with it. Libra season loves a date, a dinner party, a new perfume, a gallery on a Sunday, a hard conversation handled with grace and an agreement that finally reflects what you want. It rewards the woman who says what she wants early and kindly, and it gets reaaally uncomfortable for the woman who keeps editing her wants down so that everyone else can stay comfortable.

Venus retrograde 2026: the big story of this Libra season

Venus rules Libra, so when she stations retrograde in the middle of Libra season the whole month takes on her agenda. A retrograde is the apparent backwards motion a planet makes from our point of view on Earth, and Venus does it less often than any other personal planet, roughly once every eighteen months for about six weeks. This one runs from 3 October to 13 November 2026, beginning at 8°29' Scorpio, where Venus is at her most intense and least comfortable, and ending at 22°51' Libra, the sign she rules.

While Venus is retrograde in Scorpio, love and money get deeeep. Scorpio rules intimacy, trust, shared resources, debt, power and everything you would rather not say out loud at brunch, so this is the part of the retrograde where you might get the ick from somebody who had you feral six months ago, realise that chemistry has kept you attached waaaay longer than the relationship deserved, or find that shared money (the joint account, the business split, the thing you lent a friend in 2024) needs an honest conversation.

Venus also moves in an eight year rhythm, so this retrograde is a near perfect repeat of the one that began on 5 October 2018. Cast your mind back to autumn 2018, to who you were dating, what you were earning, what you thought you deserved and what you found beautiful, and you will often find the storyline this retrograde has come back to finish.

Venus retrograde has a reputation for bringing exes back, and while nobody can promise you that (or threaten you with it), what it reliably brings back is your own pattern: the type you keep choosing, the price you keep charging, the version of love you keep accepting as the best on offer. That is the gold, because once you can see the pattern clearly you get to make a different choice, and your own Venus sign tells you a lot about which pattern is yours.

The move during a Venus retrograde is to re-value. Go through your prices, your subscriptions and the places your money quietly leaks out each month. Pull out the clothes, the music, the perfume and the style you loved before you started dressing for somebody else's approval. Return to the creative project you abandoned, and say the thing in the relationship you have been avoiding, gently and clearly, then let the answer tell you what you need to know.

The Aries full moon on 26 September

Any full moon in Libra season falls in Aries, the opposite sign, and it lights up the axis between me and we. The Sun in Libra is focused on the relationship, the harmony and the other person, while the Moon in Aries is fiery, impatient, ballsy and entirely focused on what SHE wants, so this is the moment where the needs you have been politely postponing demand a seat at the table.

This year it lands at 3°37' Aries at 12:48pm New York time, within a degree of Neptune, with the Sun trining Pluto. Neptune dissolves boundaries and illusions, so this moon can show you where you have been living inside a fantasy about a person, a plan or your own limits, and just as often it gives you a dreamy, spiritual clarity about what you desire. Pluto backs the whole thing with power, which makes it a potent full moon for reclaiming the wants you watered down to make yourself easier to choose.

The Libra new moon on 10 October

The new moon in Libra lands at 17°21' Libra at 11:50am New York time on Saturday 10 October, the only new moon of 2026 in the sign of the scales. New moons are for beginnings, and a Libra new moon opens a fresh chapter in how you love, how you partner, what you find beautiful and what you allow yourself to receive.

This one comes with a twist, because its ruler, Venus, is retrograde in Scorpio and squares Mars in Leo later that evening. The intentions that land best under it bring something back to you: your standards, your style, your pleasure, your self-respect, the version of you who got a little lost keeping everyone else comfortable. With the new moon applying to a sextile with Jupiter in Leo, the glow up you commit to here has real room to grow over the following month.

What to look forward to this Libra season

For all the review energy, this is a genuinely funnnnn month. Mars joins Jupiter in Leo from 27 September, and with two of the boldest planets in the sign of the heart, romance, creativity, play and self-expression all get turned up. Dates feel like events again, getting dressed feels like a creative act, and the flirting is BACK.

The Sun's trine to Uranus on 28 September brings the kind of unexpected invitation or idea that changes your plans in the best way, and the Sun's sextile to Jupiter on 15 October is one of the most generous days of the season for asking, pitching, celebrating and saying yes to something that feels bigger than you. The same day Pluto stations direct, handing back a sense of personal power that has been on hold since it turned retrograde in May.

And then there is Libra's own gift, which is beauty. This is the season to make your home feel incredible, buy the flowers, book the facial, host the dinner, play the record and wear the lipstick to the supermarket, because beauty works best as a daily practice. Venus retrograde also makes it a brilliant time to fall back in loooove with what you already own, which your bank account will appreciate.

The shadow side of Libra season

Every sign has a shadow, and Libra's is sneaky because it looks so nice. The shadow side of Libra season is keeping the peace at your own expense, agreeing your way out of your own needs so that nobody has to feel any friction except you. It shows up as people pleasing, as saying yes when your whole body said no, and as the "I don't mind, you choose" that you absolutely do mind about.

Indecision is the other classic. Libra can see every side of everything, and when that gift runs on fear it turns into fence sitting, where every choice gets delayed because every choice might disappoint somebody. Then there is mirroring, where you slowly become whoever the person across from you wants you to be, the scorekeeping that happens when fairness becomes a ledger, and the perfectionism that uses beauty as armour so nobody gets close enough to see the mess.

With Venus retrograde in Scorpio this year, the shadow gets a little darker and more psychological. Jealousy, comparison, possessiveness and power games around love and money can flare up, especially wherever you have been giving more than you get and resenting it quietly. That resentment is information. It shows you exactly which deal needs renegotiating.

The medicine is simple and uncomfortable in equal measure. Say your real preference out loud at least once this season, in a room where you would usually default to whatever keeps things smooth, and watch the room survive it. Every honest preference you voice teaches your nervous system that you can be loved and have an opinion at the same time.
